k, thanks for letting me know. I'm in a similar situation T.T also... This round you could move then cast color spray on the two hounds to the far right you do that. let's roll their resistance... [dice=20]+? [dice=20]+? rofl this is awesome! The enemies get the worst rolls yet. You see two of the hounds are close enough together for your best spell so you cast. A brilliant flash of light and color washes over the area. After it's passed you see both hounds staring at you, then their legs suddenly collapse and fall on their faces.[dice=4][dice=4][dice=4]+1 that's how long they're out of the fight ewww it's their turn and one of them is gonna do something ebil. The only hound we haven't touched yet is charging at Saxire. [dice=20] [dice=4] oh good. He gets a mouthful of armor (he missed). It was close though. The one I hit is angry [dice=20] [dice=4] lol this hound is also full of fail apparently XD He has utterly missed me There went an entire round with Saxire in la-la land... =/ It's back to his turn at the start of the next round now. tip of the round@saxire: There's an angry hound in front of you but combat's almost over anyway. No need for buffs at this point. I'd recommend taking a step back then shooting the one in in front of you in the face, possibly with your strong shot. Tarquin: The battlefield is your playground at this point. There's one enemy still fighting (obviously mine is about to get owned)), you could go hit the one on Saxire (you'd even get a +2 flanking bonus because Saxire is distracting him). Alternatively you could hit the disabled one that's limping away or something (acid splash should finish it)[rand=123064821329254674427342808934404786222575073161155871774629565886]

4 days... We can't just keep waiting and a convenient story based excuse just popped into my head
The gnome starts swaying, he looks dizzy.
Time for my overly complex turn (anyone want me to post the next part of the intro to combat with some of the extra options?) I lead with an unarmed strike. Provoke an OOO [dice=20] [dice=4]
[dice=20] [dice=3] Figures >.> I use my AP hax to avoid the hit. Oh wait! I forgot about that AC bonus ^_^ nvm he missed anyway. (I have way too many AC bonuses as you may have guessed)
now for my main attack [dice=20] [dice=6]
T.T This thing is soooooo dead next round.
Leena leads with a kick, but the hound is ready, dodges, and takes the opportunity to bite but only nicks her boot. Leena tries to follow with her sword but misses
sooooooooooo dead.
okies Tarq, your turn. Saxire can also act any time now...[rand=962501799820973476274587955331975205530238541946785669530763527]

lol hi again XD I was getting worried about you =p
let's see how you do... [dice=20]+5=18 [dice=8][dice=8]+1=8
ouch. You've successfully shot it in the face XD
I can't wait till you score a crit with that thing. It deals triple damage.
Crazy gnome suddenly wakes up (kinda, he wasn't quite asleep yet). Takes a step back, then fires a shot with a two handed grip. The hound that attacked him is lying on the ground missing some teeth and bleeding from the face and neck.
Now it's Tarquin's turn. There's... uhhh... the two unconscious hounds and the one that's annoying the crap out of me. Oh yeah! One of them is still limping away.[rand=6434079479515749873156228752491248260697192077336457381878617164]

Actually you can't. If you go to the map and count, it's 8 spaces (40') of movement to reach it, but you can only move 30' and still attack. You could use acid splash, but there's me and a tree between you and the hound. The fleeing one is closer (only 30'). You could melee it, but acid splash is more likely to hit (you have a better ranged attack bonus). Sorcerers aren't known for being really stingy with their spells either, so let's do that. [dice=20]+5 = 13 [dice=3]+1 = 4 close, but you got it. (melee would've missed) Your attack almost goes wide, but splashes the side of the fleeing hound. It winces, then falls over as part of it's side dissolves.I suppose the one in front of me should do something now... It's in a bad situation, but it's too angry and generally evil to care. It attacks me. [dice=20] [dice=4] yay ^_^ easy dodge (my AC is sickening XD) Saxire's turn... Just checked, he's too far away to really get a good shot atm and I'm still unhappy with this thing > I have a better feeling about that attack routine I used last time though... AOO [dice=20] [dice=6] Yay it fails unarmed [dice=20]+5 = 19 [dice=3]+1 = 4 niiiiice ^_^ That puts it in place for the killing blow sword [dice=20]+6 = 25 [dice=6][dice=6]+1 = 6 (sneak attack bitch >3) ahhh crit threat!!!!! [dice=20] = 21 = success >3 [dice=6]+1 = 3 6+3 = 9 total (I got crappy rolls, but it's still a crit ^^p) [tutorialmode]attack rolls have a chance to score critical hits. Most attacks score critical hits when the die roll shows 20 before any modifiers are added (a "natural" 20). If this happens, the attacker rolls a second attack roll. If this attack also hits, the attacker has scored a critical hit. Roll damage twice and add the results together. Some damage is not multiplied by critical hits (mostly sneak attack). Some attacks may threaten critical on rolls other than natural 20 (eg. most swords threaten critical on a roll of 19 or 20). Some attacks may also deal more than x2 damage on a successful critical (eg. most axes deal x3 damage on a critical). Note that spells that require an attack roll may score critical hits.[/tutorialmode] wow. That worked very well. I almost dealt enough damage in one round to kill it outright from full hp, and it was already injured ^^p ima go all crazy with this description cuz I critted it ^___^ It's also gonna be prove an important point in a sec. Leena leads with a kick as before, but comes from a different angle. The hound is caught off guard and takes a heel to the back of it's head. Leena continues with the kick's momentum and launches a wide cut at the (now unconscious) enemy and lands a perfect strike. The hound's head and body make two distinct thumps as both land on the ground separately. This one's very definitely dead."ooohhh... they're not supposed to do that..." she mutters. Combat's over, not saying for how long though (remember two are just unconscious and not for a lot longer) btw, You don't hear anything else in case you listen, but I make no guarantees that that was the last of them. Anything you need to do now? Leena has something she needs to do, but she just acted so I'm gonna wait a bit.[rand=3765036792372558926402049068317628284833975909296014317466667012946]

You're a gnome, just about everything is faster than you XD Running away in D&D is sometimes very difficult, especially in rough terrain (like a forest).
Also, about their behavior. You could tell they were after you. Whenever possible (which ended up not being very often) they attacked you preferentially over the two of us.
Don't worry about not knowing what to do. Your character really wouldn't know. For future reference, the usual thing when dealing with viscous animals/beasts is to finish them off because they'll just come back later. These happen to be particularly bad because they're fiendish animals. They're smarter than any normal animal and as evil as any inhabitant of hell (that's actually where they live...)
I'm interested in what Tarq has to say about this so I'll wait a bit more.

It's actually really hard to shoot something lying on the ground from a distance so you walk up (from melee range you can do an auto-kill). Tarq was here earlier but didn't post so I'm gonna go ahead.
You walk up to the nearest hound and are about to shoot it when Leena starts yelling. "Wait! Wait! Don't kill one of them!!!" She pulls some rope out of somewhere as she runs over to one of the unconscious hounds.
She binds it's legs, then muzzles it and ties a lead around it's neck. About the time she finishes it opens it's eyes and starts trying to move. A few seconds after that it starts thrashing around trying to get loose, but Leena's now sitting on it and digging in her bag. Let's make sure of something. [dice=20] yeah, it's not getting loose.
What're you doing with the other one? If you don't do something with it after a few seconds she's gonna tell you to.[rand=186059887674083509121484889388687735308149503645165966841051005]

Yeah, I just said that's the usual thing. Leena is very unusual (although quite a few rogues would also do this if they knew what she does).
Also, you have no rope. I'm guessing you shot it.
Anyway, back to current events. After a few more seconds Leena pulls out a book. It's about the size of a modern hardcover novel and has a worn leather binding. She puts her finger on a marked page, flips it open, and starts scanning the page. She mutters something a couple of times then speaks a phrase in a language you don't understand. The dog stops thrashing and whines. >3

Ah, now that I'm something resembling awake I realize that you're not used to the intro scene. This is where you make some attempt to introduce your characters and find an excuse to travel together despite the fact that you already know each other in reality. It takes some getting used to.
I guess I'll handle the dialog. We're not going to have anything else happen for a bit unless one of you wants to do something (and it seems you don't). After Leena finishes her thing, she looks at Tarq (have you named your character btw?) and says "Thanks for the light show, that was really helpful. You wanna stick around? That wasn't normal even for here. The natural fluctuations almost never bring groups that large over." (You know this area is known for it's weak planar boundaries btw.)
You agree (cuz if you don't that's just plain annoying). She asks where you were going, and we're both leaving it's that much more convenient to stick together. Since we're going to be sticking around each other for a bit, she makes introductions. "I'm Leena, and we dunno the weird little guy's name. I'm calling him Nim. Anyway, let's gooooooo! ^____^"
She grins as she turns back to the bound dog. She opens the book again, flips some pages, says something else, then unties the hound's feet and starts leading it toward the trail.
*break for player actions*

It's following her XD She also has a lead tied to it's neck and a muzzle on it. It looks kinda scared too. I hope the other one is dead O.o obviously we did something with it, and Leena doesn't feel like dealing with two of them. Wow that's a lot of "it"s... "For the moment, he shall be know as Fluffy the fiendish hound!"
btw Fluffy doesn't like Nim. You can tell.
We walk for a while with nothing especially interesting happening. (It feels weird playing with new players O.o Where are the conversations? meh, Playing with veteran RPers has spoiled me. hmmmm [hint]Tarq, in the auto-dialog you didn't ever explain what you were doing here[/hint])
We reach the edge of the forest about dusk and Leena suggests we rest for the night (It's still quite a way back to town). Someone starts a fire and Leena makes stew with the food we have and some stuff she finds. She also ties Fluffy to a tree, ties his rear legs, and un-muzzles him so he can eat a piece of dried meat.
*conversation time*
"Hey dude, what was your name again?" *is looking at Tarq*
And for the sake of keeping things moving, I'll add the next part too (we can fill in any conversations while we do the next part).
hmmmmmm randomness *makes some unimportant rolls* Oh wow. I dunno if that's good or bad.
Suddenly 3 more hounds appear out of thin air. Yes, you were watching and the air kinda went wiggly like heat distortion and there they are now. They're only 30' away from us in the direction of the center of the forest. Two of them are noticeably larger than the ones we fought previously.
It's initiative time. I'll go draw a map too. Both of you make a d20 roll, then we'll start. If one of you gets first initiative you can go ahead and act.
Leena [dice=20] ? [dice=20] ??? [dice=20]
Party status updated and new map typed. The only really significant feature this time is a fallen log down the middle of the map. I like having interesting terrain features. It's not huge (it's 2' tall) but it affects movement and grants cover a lot like standing trees do.
btw, by "noticeably larger" I mean the two larger dogs are big The normal ones are 2-3' high at the shoulder. These are nearly 4'[rand=425367372633495677843689334148312619037338074745120103038478281277]
