Okay… Let’s pick a place and begin. The setting is a forest, specifically an old growth deciduous forest. All around you are massive trees that range for a couple of feet to almost 2 yards across. (should I use metric? I dunno how well you guys know imperial, but I’m not exactly used to metric either). Faint light filters down from the canopy to illuminate the small shrubs and groundcover of the forest floor. In some places the older trees have fallen and new plants have sprung up in the newly illuminated clearings. The air smells of old leaves and dirt with a hint of fresh plants blowing down from the greenery above.
Both current players should now have a PM with additional information.
PS-- Sorry if you're overwhelmed by all the lengthy descriptions and whatnot. I've had too much time to think this out and it's fun to type all this.
One last tip as we start playing. I remember the first time I played D&D, and I remember not knowing what to do. Think of it like a book. That's what this is. It's somewhere between a video game RPG and a fantasy novel. In video games you control where the character goes, what they buy, how they fight an all. You don't really have any say about the character's dialogue and the plot of the story in a video game though. In D&D you do it all. I dunno if that helps...

Okay, we need teh dices now, and you're close enough to each other. The hound in sight stops and howls several times (like I already said). Then dashes forward. Tarquin: You see a panicked figure through the trees; you missed him before because of the thick cover and distance but now he's moving too much to not see. @saxire: You see thisLet's roll initiative Saxire: [dice=20] Tarquin: [dice=20] and two for me [dice=20] [dice=20] okay, it's 20' away from you at the edge of the clearing. The funny gnome gets the first action. I understand that you don't know exactly what you can do in a D&D combat round yet. If you like, just describe what you want to do (shoot it, run away, climb a tree w/e) and I'll handle it.[rand=6314922962123476648810974418851363197347305960961871941651768263]

Saxire holds his action. He may act later this round if he chooses.
Guess who's next ^^p
"They're fiendish hounds! Try to do something"
gunshot [dice=20] [dice=6][dice=6]
I win ^___^ and I didn't even have to use GM hax XD
The hound takes a shot through the ribs; it falls over bleeding and unconscious.
It's now Tarquin's turn (Confused? You should be XD)[rand=618179784768400358156468113585090500133288189337213095964012200723]

ummmmmm okies. I'll try to summarize combat. I probably should have done this earlier >.< Stupid me... anyway-- edit: I moved it here!oh hey... I just realized I killed the only enemy in sight XD I'm lazy, let's keep this initiative cuz more will be here in a few rounds. Go ahead and take 2 rounds of actions. Btw, a round represents 6 seconds of game time, so you have time for a short conversation (at least me and saxire do XD, tarq is 100' away)

lol... you remember how some of the howling was behind you? You stand there a sec, then hear something running behind you. Still over 200' away, you see two more hounds.

mmmhmmm...
There are more of them, but you can't see any of them yet. You're not high enough level to use that bard skill and don't have any spells that do that. Also, even fiendish hounds can't talk. All you can do atm I guess is talk/move to a better place (not one really). Oh yeah, you might want to draw a weapon just so you don't have to do it later.
I haven't heard any more from falco at all O.o

O.o crap you're good at being lazy. I gotta think for a sec to figure out what they do.
Ah, good points evil me. I guess neither of you is doing anything for the moment (you've both posted repeatedly). Sorry if it seems like I'm stopping to wait for you too often. I'm trying not to force you into certain actions (aka "railroad" the players).
Fortunately for my amusement (and your eventual involvement in this mess), these are evil hounds in the middle of a hunt.
You look around and see a couple more hounds moving toward the clearing, but they're off to your side. The two that are moving straight toward you slow down and start circling you from 20' away. They're getting into a position to flank you.
......... ...x..... .Oxx...O. .......x. ....T..O. ..O...... ..xx...O. .E......x ..xOE..O. 45'x45' O = space containing a tree (you can still move there, it slows movement a bit but gives cover) x = space filled by shrubs of some kind (slows movement and gives penalties, these suck)
I'd like to point out that the hounds are within 15' of each other (consider this your tutorial XD)
edit: waaaait a sec... I haven't seen your finished character XD. Do you have color spray? meh, oh well. Not a terrible situation even if you don't.
@saxire You see this, and 3 more hounds coming toward you from various directions.

he's 100' away... If you really wanna I guess you could XD The hounds would probably reach you about the time you reached him. These things really aren't very strong. If you roll like I did with a pistol shot you'd get the same results (1 hit kill). Like I said, this is your tutorial.
hmmm... for the sake of keeping the game moving, let's do that. Turn order was...
hounds -> move. Two of them reach tarq, the rest are a bit away Saxire -> run toward tarq, you can get within 30' in a single turn of flat out running Me -> *facepalm* >.< Ima jump down and follow you. I end up 15' behind you.
it's now tarq's turn, with the situation I described above.
