(16:41:49)(~frostycpu) okay..
(16:41:57)(~frostycpu) just to give you a global overview of what's happening
(16:42:17)(~frostycpu) we're getting attacked by something that is called a "DDoS", a Distributed Denial of Service attack
(16:42:21)(~frostycpu) basically
(16:42:52)(~frostycpu) that means that one user has access to hundreds and possibly thousands of computers to send us useless information and choke up our internet connection
(16:43:26)(~frostycpu) the DDoS we got reached 2.4 GBPS, so each second that passed, 2.4 gigs of information was sent to our server
(16:44:08)(~frostycpu) there is nothing we can really do to prevent this
(16:44:25)(~frostycpu) as there are far too many IPs that are sending us information to block them
(16:44:37)(~frostycpu) and even if we do block, the information still reaches the server
(16:45:11)(~frostycpu) what was done about it for now is
(16:45:30)(~frostycpu) the datacenter where our servers are hosted -nullrouted- our servers
(16:45:47)(~frostycpu) that means that the IPs of qRO are no longer active, therefore can't be attacked
(16:46:03)(~frostycpu) but obviously, that leaves us with no servers to work with for now
(16:46:16)(~frostycpu) since they are technicly not connected on the internet anymore
(16:46:51)(~frostycpu) this was done because since the attack was so large, some other clients of the hosting compagny suffered~from it
(16:46:57)(~frostycpu) one of them being imageshack
(16:47:06)(~frostycpu) they apparently are hosted at the same compagny we are
(16:47:14)(~frostycpu) and they got taken down with us
(16:47:27)(~frostycpu) while we were getting attacked
(16:47:40)(~frostycpu) just to give you an idea of how large the attack is
(16:47:54)(~frostycpu) a normal cable connection is about 3-5 MBPS
(16:48:18)(~frostycpu) what we got hit with is 2400 MBPS
(16:50:03)(~frostycpu ) so right now, we can only wait for the attacker to stop
(16:50:12)(~frostycpu ) I have no idea why they are doing this
(16:50:19)(~frostycpu ) maybe they're just jealous or whatever
(16:50:21)(~frostycpu ) but either way
(16:50:26)(~frostycpu ) the attacks will stop eventually
(16:51:06)(~frostycpu ) these kind of compromised servers usually don't last very long since the owners see that they sent like 400 gigs of information in a short period of time
(16:52:03)(~frostycpu ) we may switch our hosting compagny to a bigger one who can handle these kind of attacks
(16:52:23)(~frostycpu ) all this to protect ourselves and the datacenter that we are with
(16:52:30)(%Odaroo ) seeing this as an attack~frosty, will the server charge us for exceeding our bandwitdh? (If we have any.)
(16:52:39)(~frostycpu ) no
(16:52:50)(%Odaroo ) hopefully.
(16:52:58)(~frostycpu ) they have insurance for that
(16:53:10)(~frostycpu ) and they actually have made insurance claims because of these attacks
(16:53:21)(%Odaroo ) nice.
(16:53:42)(~frostycpu ) they may ask us to move our hosting to protect themselves
(16:53:46)(~frostycpu ) if they decide to do that
(16:53:55)(~frostycpu ) we will be reimbursed for this months servers
(16:54:14)(~frostycpu ) so whatever happens, qRO will be alright, and without money problems for this month
(16:54:36)(~frostycpu ) so that's it.
(16:54:40)(~frostycpu ) hope this explained everything
(16:54:46)(%Odaroo ) are we the only ones being DDoSed over our host?
(16:54:58)(~frostycpu ) yes, our HR server was targetted
(16:55:02)(XCrono ) but wouldnt moving to a bigger host be more costly?
(16:55:11)(02~frostycpu ) not necesserily
and.....
for those who haven't got in touch on whats going on
we've been DDOS'd at 2.4gbps
and our isp blocker our ips addresses
our isp is currently reviewing our case, if we can keep this datacenter or not
if not
we will be moving somewhere else
nothing will be loss
do not worry about that
be patien.

if you dont know what 2.4gbps is like, throw your computer off a skyscraper, thats how it feels like
ddos attacks cannot be traced back
indeed
it's a bunch of computers infected by some worm
controled by the attacker
well
I just want to tel lyou
to not worry about your account
and qRO will be back
our ISP and our team is working hard on this issue
we're waiting after our isp
if we get a good answer we might get back tonight
well.....make ur own idea..all this was wrote today
