With the large amount of RPGs available these days, there's bound to be some RPGs that you just couldn't finish. It might be because:
1.) Didn't have enough time to play it at the time and never got back to it.
2.) Too long.
3.) Lost interest.
4.) Was boring.
5.) Other reasons.
I have played a lot of RPGs that I never finished. If you have played some RPGs that you couldn't finish, list them and explain why you didn't finish them.
RPGs I Never Finished
1.) Final Fantasy IX
- I didn't really have much time to play FFIX when it came out, due to tons of school work (I was in 11th grade back then). I did play it from time to time and got as far as the 3rd disc. However, the interval between the times I did play FFIX were long; I would often forget what was going on in the storyline. At one point, I even asked "Who the heck is Kuja?" (ED. Kuja is the main villain of FFIX). After a while, I just stopped playing altogether.
2.) Xenosaga - Episode I: Der Wille zur Macht
- Being a fan of Xenogears, I was really interested in getting into Xenosaga. However, the exploration areas were uninteresting, battle system was so-so, and the lack of music in many of the exploration areas certainly didn't help. The large amount of cutscenes were nice, but they were quite lengthy. I think Xenosaga would have been better off as a movie/TV series rather than a game.
3.) Star Ocean 2
- Fairly open ended game with tons of sub-quests. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to play this one due to school work (damn 11th grade) and never got back to it.
4.) Star Ocean 3: Till the End of Time
- Star Ocean 3 had great premise, as it presented itself as a sci-fi fantasy RPG game, a genre which I really enjoy. The storyline at the beginning kept me going, but as I played and played, the storyline got less interesting. After a while, I just lost all interest.
5.) La Pucelle: Tactics
- Made by the same company as Disgaea. The gameplay is similar to Disgaea. Unfortunately, the game wasn't nearly as fun and engaging as Disgaea was.
6.) SaGa Frontier 2
- I liked the first SaGa Frontier, but I didn't enjoy the second one very much. Unlike the first game, SG2 was very linear and didn't quite seem to have the customization that the first one had.
7.) Dragon Warrior VII
- Being a fan of the Dragon Quest/Warrior series, I really enjoyed this game, as it was the first real Dragon Warrior to make it overseas to the U.S. in a long time (the last DW game that came out in the U.S. before VII was Dragon Warrior IV in 1992). Unfortunately, it came out during my 11th grade year (damn it!), so I wasn't able to play it much. Perhaps I come back to play DW VII and beat it sometime.
8.) Suikoden IV
- Also a big fan of the Suikoden series, I was definitely looking forward to SIV. Unfortunately, the slow (boring) ship exploration, (combined with the high encounter rate) between the islands, along with a so-so storyline made me lose interest. I stopped playing after while, when another good RPG came out. I'll have to force myself to finish this one when I have time.
9.) Final Fantasy X-2
- Compared to Final Fantasy X, X-2 was a really lackluster RPG. The storyline wasn't all that interesting (find Tidus!), the dress system was a joke, and the music was terrible (where was Nobuo Uematsu??).
10.) Final Fantasy Tactics Advance
- Really enjoyed the original Final Fantasy Tactics on PS1. FFT:A, on the other hand, was not as fun to play, due to the fact that the JP system from FFT was removed and the introduction of the ridiculous law/judge system. I hated the law/judge system, since it imposed ridiculous rules in some battles. If you violated the battle rules, you would be carded (like in soccer).
11.) Tactics Ogre
- Really liked this strategy game when it came out. It played very similarly to Final Fantasy Tactics. This is no surprise, since the same team that developed Tactics Ogre also developed Final Fantasy Tactics. I played up to the final chapter, but because of school, I was forced to stop playing this one for a while. I never got back to it.
12.) Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete
- Like the first Lunar game, I also enjoyed playing Lunar 2. I got to the last dungeon, but the final boss was too difficult to beat. I was going to go back and level up some more and try to beat it, but school got in the way and I never got back to it.
13.) Destiny of an Emperor 2
14.) Grandia
15.) Diablo II
16.) Final Fantasy Legend III
17.) Secret of Mana
18.) Final Fantasy Adventure
- I played up to the final dungeon. However, there was one area that required a key to advance and I had used up all my keys. Tried going back, but the dungeon is one of those places where once you go in, you never came out. Because I was stuck, I couldn't complete the game. -_-
19.) Tales of Destiny
1.) Didn't have enough time to play it at the time and never got back to it.
2.) Too long.
3.) Lost interest.
4.) Was boring.
5.) Other reasons.
