Well, a normal game in real life usually takes 4-8 hours per gaming session. A full campaign could last 10 sessions easily, or you could just go on episodic adventures that last one session (kinda like TV shows). I found a program that lets you play D&D over the internet pretty well, but that would involve all of us playing at once. If we did that we'd have to find some time that all of us could play (like WoE, only much longer). I was thinking we'd just make a thread on the forum (probably spam because we'd be making a freakishly large number of posts). Playing a game like that would take a while (weeks? months?). It wouldn't disrupt anything or require a lot of scheduling though. Trust me, scheduling is a total pain. There's a reason D&D is stereotyped as being played in the middle of the night. Do you know how hard it is to get 5-6 people together for 6 hours straight on a regular basis? My group plays through the night on Saturdays (We went to sleep at 6am last week, and 7am the week before). soooo yeah, short answer is...
The game would probably take place over a period of several weeks.

Well, I am going on a trip in 2 weeks, so I would be gone for a while in the middle of the game, would that be a problem? lol

only if you couldn't check the forums =/
We could delay the game till you get back or test the game w/o you. It's not like we can only play one game through the forums. If it works out we'll play more
Since we seem to have enough people to start, (5 yes-es now that I've voted) we should probably get a list of people who are playing. Could the people who voted yes please identify themselves? We have blank, bujin, me, ghalleon, one more person... rauf sounded excited about it... I dunno.
I'm gonna go edit my first post now

If we do play this on the forums, I think yoon should make a place for it. Outside of spam, but so it still does not add to post counts. Think that could be done?

I guess that'd be up to him. If it works out we're definitely gonna want an area to play in. Maybe yoon could go ahead and make a D&D forum and merge it with the spam forum if it doesn't work out?

ok, well, sounds like a really fun game. I am going to log onto qRO for a while now, so if you have some time right now you could log on and start teaching me how to play. Otherwise I am going to try selling stuff. lol

our options for dice are to either use this dice by email service, or trust the DM. I'm too lazy to bother with email so I vote that we just have the DM roll stuff.

I can create a separate D&D section on the forums, maybe as a sub-forum under "The Game Room" forums. I can also set it so that it does not add to the post counts.

I have no clue either, Jaegar taught me some basics but I don't really know how to play yet. It sounds like a game that is easier to learn by playing.

yeah, it is. It was all gibberish till I played a game, then it clicked and I read the books cover to cover and understood it

sweeeeet! thanks jaegar for DMing, cuz i much prefer to play, and it sounds like you know more about it than me.
im all for trusting jaegar with the dice-(you kinda have to even irl). if anyone needs proof, the DMs goal is not to kill the players, cuz the game ends because all are dead. kind of anticlimactic. and depressing since you cant reload and start from a checkpoint. over is over xD.
about if someone cant be there always, or is away from the posts for awile, i have an idea. if someone will be gone for a long time, then they could tell the DM and he could fit it to the story. maybe so-and-so got kidnapped, or something? or, the character could be entrusted to the DM and kinda run like an AI. fight in battles, and keep with everyone. as long as they didnt die before the player got back to the forums, it would be fine. and as long as the whole party doesnt die, people should remain alive.
anyway, those were just ideas, so once we get a roster of all who want to play, we can start the test run.
@jae - how we gonna do the test? should everyone make a char to use? or should they have just sample chars to test? if you need help with anything, i volunteer.
its gonna be fuuuuuuuuuun

mmmm, yeahhh... I'm kinda dreading the whole character thing. I'm thinking that everyone who knows how should make a level 1 character of a base race and class. For ghalleon (if he plays) I'll make a character and explain some more before we play.
If you guys have access to a scanner it would be awesome of you could scan your finished character and post a link or send it to me or something. (there, I just un-hid my email)
CHARACTER CREATION DETAILS-- just some notes for people who want them
ABILITY SCORES- Roll your ability scores with the floating reroll method (the one described in the book) or whatever you like. If your scores are too ridiculous I'll adjust them or something. I favor playing powerful characters though so if you want to continue with this character (assuming we keep playing after this) roll using the custom method developed by one of my rl D&D buddies
you get a free 18 roll 5 more ability scores, but reroll any 1s that come up (till none of the dice are 1s) arrange the scores as you like
It makes characters with much higher scores than the usual way, but oh well, it's that much more fun to be had.
CHARACTER BACKGROUND- I'm not gonna require anything for the test campaign (I encourage it though). After that I prefer you have something, just because that's more fun. If you're too lazy/don't like making backgrounds, just do something boring and cheesy. (my main character has a generic background).
ALIGNMENT- For the test, I don't care as long as you don't kill each other and go along with the plot hook I give you. After that it'll be on a campaign-by-campaign basis.
PARTY FORMATION- As usual, don't care for the test. After that I'd like to use a suggestion I found in the DMG II. Every character needs to include a connection to two other characters in the party in their background. Doesn't have to be anything major, "We're childhood friends", "We trained under the same master", "We helped each other out during a bar brawl and have been friends ever since", there's an infinite number of possibilities. It's simple, but effective in creating a cohesive party.
MONEY- use the level 1 starting money =P. Not really nessecary in this situation, but I'm so used to the question that I had to give the answer anyway.
