Let's see what everyone is using for their main operating system. Vote PLOX! I'm primarily using Windows XP at the moment, while experimenting with Ubuntu Linux and Windows Vista at the same time.

I've completely switched to Windows Vista now, on both my computer (64-bit) and my laptop (32-bit). I'm no longer using XP anymore.
The Vista OS itself has been working out great, but some of the drivers for Vista are iffy, especially for my X-Fi Elite Pro sound card (although Creative's driver support has always sucked, even on XP).

I might try out OS X later on a custom PC, thanks to the OSx86 project...

I might try out OS X later on a custom PC, thanks to the OSx86 project... If you manage to get that working, please let me know. I tried that a few months back but Mac OS X didnt boot. Maybe its because of my system config, but w/e..xD

I'll probably set it up later this weekend or next week, once I have all the parts for my Ubuntu PC/hackint0sh.
EDIT: After assembling the computer, I installed both Ubuntu and Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.9. The PC parts for this "experiment" computer that I got were cheap/used parts, but configured similarly to a real Mac for better compatibility. I installed Ubuntu and Mac OS X after assembling the computer.
The first two installations for OS X Tiger failed, since I had installed too many extras that were making the kernel unstable. However, the third installation was a charm, after just installing just the base video and network drivers. Now it's working out great. It's extremely stable, as I have yet to run into any crashes related to compatibility.

hmmm... so this is Linux... I'm not sure what I'm gonna run whenever I build my PC, but I don't feel like paying $200 for software when there are free things everywhere >.> Right now I'm running Kubuntu from a live CD I d/led and burned. It's different, but I could probably get used to this. I do have a question though. What's the difference between all the different versions of Ubuntu. I mean there's Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Edbuntu. Does anybody here know what the important differences are and (hopefully) have a recommendation?

All Ubuntu and it's variants all contain the same code base and programs. The only main difference is the default GUI it is setup with. Here are the differences listed below:
Ubuntu - Uses the Gnome GUI. (Default layout) Kubuntu - Uses the KDE GUI. (Layout somewhat similar to Windows) Xubuntu - Uses the Xfce GUI. Edubuntu - Geared towards educational organizations, such as schools, universities, etc. Also, more "kid-friendly" than the other Ubuntu variants.
Even if you were to go with Ubuntu, but later decided that you like the KDE interface that Kubuntu has, you can easily install the KDE repositories and set KDE as the main GUI over Gnome. Overall, it comes down to which GUI you like better.
