I'm not going to go too far in depth with this guide, but it should be a good start for those who are just starting.
Druid:
The Druid is the all rounder type class. They are able to DPS through Balance talents or Cat Feral talents, Tank with the most HP through Bear / Dire Bear Feral talents, and heal through Restoration.

Hunter:
The Hunter is a basic ranged DPS with a pet. Where ever you put points it will be to increase either your damage or your pets. Tame new pets so that you can teach your main pet new skills.

Mage:
The Mage is your basic spell caster. All talent trees are about damage. All trees have talents that increase other spells (minor) and increases the specifics more.

Paladin:
The Paladin is another hybrid class like the Druid. They are the best single target healer in the game through Holy talents, able to tank 4-5 enemies (yes, I do it all the time), and DPS through the Retribution tree.

Priest:
The Priest is the strongest support class in the game. You have the strongest heals (Holy), you can increase health and cast shields through the Discipline tree, or you can greatly increase your parties mana regen with your shadow buffs and debuffs.

Rogue:
As a Rogue your job is to stab, stab and stab. Unless you go into the Combat tree for swords or overpower mace. Surprise attack your foes with the Subtlety tree or improve your combo's with Assassination tree.

Shaman:
The last hybrid is the Shaman. This is the class I originally played and gets hit with more nerf bats than a little league team. They are the best group healers through the mighty Chain Heal. Or you can melee DPS and support other melee classes through Enhancement. And lastly you can play Mage with the Elemental tree.

Warlock:
The Warlock is a cross between Mage and Hunter. You get the Spells and the Pet. You can go Damage over Time with Affliction, or increase your Pets stats with Demonology, or you can make things explode with the Destruction Tree.

Warrior:
The last class is the Warrior. He can't get supper HP like a Bear Druid and he can't tank multiple foes like the Paladin...however he takes the least amount of physical damage from every source through his Protection Tree. He can duel wield with the Fury Talents or wield a huge 2 hander with the Arms Talents.
